LANDSCAPE CHAPEL

Digital Fabrication Studio - Fall 2010

An introductory studio to graduate school and an intensive digital design studio, this project focused on manipulating landscape to create architecture.

Beginning with a wrapping parti that contained program and knotted together pieces, this two dimensional diagram became a three dimensional landform study.

A major component of this studio was to understand landscape as a design element.  Research was conducted about various foliage typologies and how those change throughout the year and create a seasonal color palette.

Model making was encouraged on many levels including a serial section model to understand complicated site geometry.  Several studies were conducted on types of gabion wall assemblies and patterns of light created by rock scale and density studied.
